UNDESERVING YET UNCONDITIONALLY LOVED – By Pastor George Lehman
God gives enough Grace for each trial we face.
Here’s a subject like “God’s Glory” which we can never fully grasp: –
Let me ask you: – What does God give us that’s – Undeserving and that we are unconditionally loved.
One word: – GRACE
To receive the grace of God, we must stop trying to get it.
John 1:17 – For while the law was given to Moses, Grace (unearned, undeserved favor and spiritual blessing) and truth came through Jesus Christ.
John 1:16 – From the fullness of His grace we have all received one blessing after another.
Romans 5:15 (Amp) – But the free gift [of God] is not like the trespass [because the gift of grace overwhelms the fall of man]. For if many died by one man’s trespass [Adam’s sin], much more [abundantly] did God’s grace and the gift [that comes] by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, overflow to [benefit] the many.
# Grace:- “Greek word” CHARIS
Is the divine influence on the heart – and its reflection in the life –
When God’s grace has touched your life, it will show.
How we use the word “GRACE” so freely – but rarely know the depth of its full meaning. “Question – will we ever?”
You see Grace is: –
* Outrages
* Hard to accept
* Hard to believe
* Hard to receive
Grace shocks us in what it offers. Grace is truly NOT of this world.
It’s so amazing what it does for sinners.
Romans 11:6 – But if it is by grace (His unmerited favor and graciousness), it is no longer conditioned on works or anything men have done. Otherwise, grace would no longer be grace (it would be meaningless).
Listen to what Paul the great apostle says: –
I Timothy 1:12-14 (NIV) – 12I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength, that He considered me trustworthy, appointing me to His service. 13Even though I was once a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent man, I was shown mercy because I acted in ignorance and unbelief. 14The grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus.
I Corinthians 15:9-11 (NIV) – 9For I am the least of the apostles and do not even deserve to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace to me was not without effect. No, I worked harder than all of them – yet not I , but the grace of God that was with me. 11Whether, then, it is I or they, this is what we preach, and this is what you believe.
Grace is God doing for you, what you can’t do yourself.
Paul says:
Galatians 1:15 – But when He, who had chosen and set me apart (even) before I was born and had called me by His grace (His undeserved favor and blessing) saw fit and was pleased.
“God’s grace” says you are valuable and precious and no matter what: – your life does count and make sense.
Your birth was for a purpose. Not just to fill a space and then die.
Titus 2:11 – For the “Grace of God” that brings salvation has appeared to all men.
Paul writing to Timothy takes it even a step further.
I Timothy 1:14 – The Grace of our Lord was poured out on me abundantly, along with the Faith and Love that are in Christ Jesus.
When you have messed up to a point where others write you off.
God receives you back with open arms.
Luke 15:11 – 31 Jesus tells a Grace story about a Periodical Son or a Lost Son.
But it’s all really about a loving father.
Notice: – Luke 15:21-24 (NIV) – 21”The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’ 22But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. 24For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So, they began to celebrate.
Verse 28 (NIV) – The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So, his father went out and pleaded with him.
Of this whole story here is the Fathers heart of Grace
Even when we have a stinking, poor, ugly, judgemental attitude grace comes to us too.
Where can you and I find Grace when it’s so needed in our lives?
Hebrews 4:16 – Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of Grace. (The throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners) that we may receive mercy (for our failures) and find grace to help in Good time for every need (appropriate help and well timed help, coming just when we need it).
Grace my friend, focuses on who God is and what He has done, and takes the focus off ourselves.
And yet – it’s so easy to think we need to do something to earn God’s favor.
As though Grace is too good to be true
Ponder this: – If, the Father is satisfied with His son’s full payment for sin and we are in His Son, by “Grace” through faith, then He is satisfied with you and me.
Ephesians 2:7-8 (NIV) – 7In order that in the coming ages He might show the incomparable riches of His grace, expressed in His kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.
Phillip Yancey – “Man is born broken; He lives by mending – The Grace of God is glue.
Spurgeon told of an evening when he was riding home after a heavy day’s work. He felt weary and depressed, when as suddenly as a lightning flash he thought of 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for thee.” He said, “I should think it is, Lord,” and burst out laughing.
He said that it seemed to make unbelief so absurd. It was as though some little fish, being very thirsty, was troubled about drinking the river dry, and the river said, “Drink away, little fish, my stream is sufficient for thee.” Or, it seemed after the seven years of plenty, a mouse feared that it would die of famine, and Joseph might say, “Cheer up, little mouse, my granaries are sufficient for thee.” Or, a man away up on a mountain saying to himself, “I fear I shall exhaust all the oxygen in the atmosphere.” But the earth might say, “Breathe away, oh man, and fill thy lungs ever; my atmosphere is sufficient for thee.” Little faith with Gods grace will bring our souls to Heaven, but great faith in His grace will bring Heaven to us.
