The Kingdom life is a Descending life
There is a Journey for every child of God to take!!!
The John3:30 life; The answer to a blessed overcoming life – Hebrews 5:11-13(NIV)
“A man is what he appears in God’s eyes, and not the slightest bit more.” St. Francis
This is a word to guide the believers into a Kingdom life
Philippians 2:1–9 (Amp) – Therefore if there is any encouragement and comfort in Christ [as there certainly is in abundance], if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship [that we share] in the Spirit, if [there is] any [great depth of] affection and compassion, 2make my joy complete by being of the same mind, having the same love [toward one another], knit together in spirit, intent on one purpose [and living a life that reflects your faith and spreads the gospel-the good news regarding salvation through faith in Christ]. 3Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit [through factional motives, or strife], but with [an attitude of] humility [being neither arrogant nor self-righteous], regard others as more important than yourselves. 4Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5Have this same attitude in yourselves which was in Christ Jesus [look to Him as your example in selfless humility], 6who although He existed in the form and unchanging essence of God [as One with Him, possessing the fullness of all the divine attributes – the entire nature of deity], did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped or asserted [as if He did not already possess it, or was afraid of losing it]; 7but emptied Himself [without renouncing or diminishing His deity, but only temporarily giving up the outward expression of divine equality and His rightful dignity] by assuming the form a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men [He became completely human but was without sin, being fully God and fully man]. 8And He was found in [terms of His] outward appearance as a man [for a divinely appointed time], He humbled Himself [still further] by becoming obedient [to the Father] to the point of death, even death on a cross. 9For this reason also [because He obeyed and so completely humbled Himself], God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name above every name.
You will notice from this scripture of Paul from verse 1-4 talks about our behaviour to one another from verse 5-10 gives us the guidelines as to how that behaviour must be!
You see descending is not as automatic as say like:-
Jumping out of an aeroplane or
on a bungee cord.
Or even going down an escalator.
We cannot depend on gravity or momentum to make a “Spiritual descent”.
The act of moving down – Requires: Grasp this: – Many conscious (bewustelike) forceful, wilful, active decisions of commitment and obedience each and every day – in our lives.
Philippians 2:7a – But stripped Himself [of all privileges and rightful dignity], so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave),
“NOTHING” or “NIKS” in the dictionary means: – A thing of no importance
Nothing – is Emptiness
Nothing x Nothing = A whole lot of Nothing.
The world says:
There is nothing good about nothing. Try and take nothing to the bank.
The world tells us, if you want to prove your value and status, in this world – if you want to be a somebody –
You must accomplish something of significance of greatness of wealth or position it’s all about things, prestige, power, and recognition.
Because nothing is for no bodies.
Philippians 2:7 say’s Jesus (made) Himself nothing.
“He gave all He was so we could become like He is.”
1.That is a wilful action.
2.Jesus deliberately stripped Himself of everything – His divine rights, His greatness and privileges.
3.He wasn’t pushed, tripped or shoved; it wasn’t an accidental fall either.
The hard pill to swallow is Jesus’ followers are asked to do the same.
The old Adam nature in us says not your will but mine.
Jesus said not my will but yours.
Descending will involve:
1) Humility, ]
2) Brokenness, ] This will lead to a full blessed life
3) Dependency, ] A life tuned into God
4) Servant hood, ] A life lead by the Holy Spirit
5) Commitment and ]
6) Obedience. ]
Descending will not come if these characteristics are not evident in your life.
Philippians 2:8 – And became obedient to death – even death on a cross.
The ticket to freedom is obedience.
Hebrews 5:8–9 (Amp) – Although He was a Son, He learned [active, special] obedience through what He suffered and, [His completed experience] making Him perfectly [equipped], He became the Author and Source of eternal salvation to all those who give heed and obey Him,
For the most we are very happy in our “comfort zone” living a life of convenience and ease!
When I ran a Businessman’s Ministry and still mentor men – many of them came and thanked me for forcing them out of their comfort zones.
The common thread through what they said:
All my life I tried to arrange circumstances so carefully so that I could live my life so comfortably and safely with the absolute minimum of inconvenience.
(If this is not a comfort zone, what is?)
They say now I’m learning that loving and descending isn’t always comfortable – There’s a price attached to it but it’s worth it.
You end up being inconvenienced; you go down unexpected turns, which costs when you chose to be a servant. But life is much more exciting and valuable now doing it Gods way.
The sad fact is that many Christians will become rebellious, uncommitted, disobedient and extremely prideful, just to stay in the comfort zone.
(Think about this for a moment.)
What bible verses do you focus on the most, or the verses you mostly want to hear:
Isn’t it the one’s that guarantee?
These are the ones we can quote, the ones we put on posters and on our walls.
The verses that threaten our comfort zone we chose to just overlook them or make light of them. I know this from first hand experience.
Scriptures that (1) Cut (2) Pierce (3) Expose and (4) Challenge us to “obedience” and “downward mobility”
i.e. “descending” – very seldom are memorized or even written out or find their way onto posters.
The thing about the comfort zone you will come to realise in time is:-
It doesn’t lead to fulfilment or
To positive change or
To Spiritual growth and character
Relationship progress – it requires “pain”, conflict, tension.
The athlete say’s No pain- No gain. The business man say’s No guts- No glory.
Spiritually speaking. The same principles apply.
John 10:10 – The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
Living the Kingdom full abundant life is not found along the upward path towards the comfort zone.
It’s only found along the downward path towards
b) Tough choices,
c) Painful growth and
d) real obedience.
John 20:20–21 – I’m sending you to a life of scars and death, but don’t worry, peace will go with you.
You have a choice when you are challenged: – You can do 1 of 2 things: –
Crawl back into your comfort zone of denial – disobedience – your lack of commitment and say I’m happy to stay just the way I am.
2) You can face your need to change to grow and to become useful and effective
and YES risk losing all for Jesus’ sake.
What is your choice?
Philippians 1:29 – For it has been granted to you on behalf of Jesus Christ; Not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for Him.
Philippians 2:5 (Amp) – Let this same attitude and purpose and [humble] mind be in you which was in Christ Jesus: [Let Him be your example in humility:]
The comfort zone is really the Land of the Bland – die hoog en droog. The grey and boring, the miserable and dull!
Compared to the great adventure of the risky living of “descending into greatness” with peace and joy – through your quality decision to be obedient and committed to your High Calling in Christ Jesus.
He is not the God of 2nd chances –
He is the God of “Another chance”.
If your life has been one of compromise and comfort seeking repent and humble yourself and God will give you ANOTHER chance.
