Take The Limits off God
Pastor Sid Hartley
Psalm 78:40-41 (NKJV) – 40“How often they provoked Him in the wilderness, and grieved Him in the desert!” 41Yes, again and again they tempted (tested) God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.”
We can rob ourselves of what God wants to do in us for us and through us through our negativity and unbelief.
Psalm 78:19-20 (NIV) – 19“They spoke against God; they said, “Can God really spread a table in the wilderness? 20True, he struck the rock, and water gushed out, streams flowed abundantly, but can he also give us bread? Can he supply meat for his people?”
How often do we limit God by asking, or thinking, the same question.
Rather than ask, “Can God…?” we should say, God can…!
Ephesians 3:20 (TPT) – “Never doubt God’s mighty power to work in you and accomplish all this. He will achieve infinitely more than your greatest request, your most unbelievable dream, and exceed your wildest imagination! He will outdo them all, for his miraculous power constantly energizes you.”
God’s Promises
Eternal Life
John 1:12-13 (NKJV) – 12But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
John 3:16 (NIV) – “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
Provision
Matthew 6:33 (NLT) – “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.”
Protection
Psalm 91:1-2(NLT) – “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust Him.”
Wisdom
James 1:5(NLT) – “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”
Courage
Joshua 1:9 (NLT) – “This is My command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”
Healing
1 Peter 2:24 (NLT) – “He personally carried our sins in His body on the cross so that we can be dead to sin and live for what is right by His wounds you are healed.”
The Holy Spirit (God wants to do something in us so that He can work through us)
Acts 1:8 (NKJV) – “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Ephesians 5:18 (NLT) – “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit,”
In fact, there is a promise in the Bible for every situation you may find yourself in.
What do we need to do?
Obey
Isaiah 1:19(NKJV) – “If you are willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the land.”
2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV) – Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Fulfill the conditions
Believe the Promises(Mix it with faith)
Romans 4:16 (NLT) – “So the promise is received by faith. It is given as a free gift. And we are all certain to receive it, whether or not we live according to the law of Moses if we have faith like Abraham’s. For Abraham is the father of all who believe.
Romans 4:20(NLT) – “Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God.”
B. Unbelief is what kept Israel out of Canaan and destroyed them in the desert
Hebrews 3:19(NIV) – “So we see that they were not able to enter, because of their unbelief.”
Be patient
Hebrews 10:36(NLT) – Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.”
God does not always fulfil His promises immediately. He can but He seldom does.
He works in us before He works for us and through us.
Conclusion
Let’s take the limits off God and trust Him to fulfil His promises to us.
Mark 10:27 (NIV) – “Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.”
Always remember that the reason why God wants to keep His promises to us isn’t to spoil us but that we might be a blessing and testimony to others.
