Passion for Life

Passion for Life

“I do today from memory what yesterday I did in passion.”

Passion – Pursues – Purpose

Romans 8:28 (NIV) – And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

By: Pastor George Lehman

Romans 12:11 (Ampl) – Never lag in *zeal and in *earnest endeavor; be aglow and burning with the Spirit, serving the Lord.

*To achieve something (Poog)

The key issue in this 21st century is not church growth, but church health.

If you and I as the church are healthy, the church will grow.

Nature shows us all living things grow if they’re healthy. (You don’t have to make them grow). A healthy church is a growing church.

A healthy Christian is a passionate Christian.  The church is only as healthy as its individual members.
How passionately healthy are you?

The George Gallop poll did a survey in 130 countries with 13 000 people who used to go to church but don’t anymore.

One of the many questions:  What would need to happen for you to return to church?

The number 1 answer was:  Passion in the lives of the members and leaders. (Let us not give people an excuse.)

What people want to see is:

A zeal – heartily persistent. (Tenacious / Aanhoudent)
An earnest endeavour – living your confession.
A person aglow and burning. (People see your light and glorify God)

What people long to see is one word = PASSION!

Passion means:  Strong emotion. Excitement,  Strong enthusiasm.

Passion is the difference between enthusiastic action and simply going through the motions. Doing something because you have to!

Passion is like a fire in the heart.

If you don’t tend to the fire, it will go out.

Jeremiah 20:9 (Amp) – If I say, I will not make mention of [the Lord] or speak any more in His name, in my mind and heart it is as if there were a burning fire shut up in my bones. And I am weary of enduring and holding it in; I cannot [contain it any longer].

Verse 11 – “The Lord stands beside me like a Mighty Warrior.” As He did with: David – Goliath

Daniel – Lion’s Den

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego – Fiery furnace

2 Timothy1:6 (NIV) – For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.

We cannot allow something so precious to become familiar, to become ordinary, or everyday or common.
Sadly, how many of the older Christians have to be pushed begged and prodded to have some kind of Passion, whereas the new converts BURN with Passion, it’s the older ones who throw water on their fire.

The ‘passion fire’ in us must be stoked, attended to and fed everyday.  ‘Passion’, like a fire, can be seen and felt and will always make a difference.

Like a steam engine the fire must be fed otherwise it won’t run

When you love what you do, three things are added to you that contribute to passion.

Energy – You will always have energy for what you love. If you love Jesus and the ministry, you’ll care about how you live, and when you care, that generates personal energy.

We often call that internal motivation. It’s a fire that burns within!

Joy – When you love the ministry your energy is strong, a sense of joy fills your life!

This doesn’t mean every day is an easy day, but the practical translation is that even on the tough days, it’s worth it!

This makes the majority of your work in the ministry something you truly enjoy. This continually re-ignites your passion.

Improvement – It’s absolutely vital to keep growing while you keep going.

The goal is to get better at what you do. To keep growing in the word and in character. How about you? How are you improving? Improvement increases passion!

Passion energizes the Christian life.

Passion gives us focus and vision.
Passion is one of the ways that God empowers our lives.
Romans 12:11 (LB) – Never be lazy in your work but serve the Lord, enthusiastically.

How would you describe your spiritual life?  Would ‘passionate’ be a word you would use?

What would others say about you what about your family would they say you’re Passionate about Jesus

God is passionate about us; therefore, He desires we be passionate about Him.

David lost his passion when circumstance came against him.  What about you?  Are you only on fire and passionate about God when things go well?

David stirs himself with this and so should we!

Psalm 42:11 (LB) – But oh my soul, don’t be discouraged.  Don’t be upset.  Expect God to act!  For I know that I shall again have plenty of reason to praise Him for all that He will do.  He is my help!  He is my God.

How to keep your passion fire burning that you can have Passion for life:

#1 Prayer keeps the fire burning.

Colossians 4:2 (Amp) – Be earnest and *unwearied and steadfast in your prayer (life) being (both) alert and intent in (your praying) with thanksgiving.

*Not becoming tired / onvermoeit

Passion comes when you spend time with God.

A prayer-less person is a Passion-less person

John Wesley: When asked about his ministry, “I ask God to set me on fire and let people watch me burn.”

#2 Mix with passionate people.

Proverbs 2:20 (LB) – Walk in the way of good men and keep the paths of the righteous.

You become like those you hang around with. Do you want to know where you’re headed in life just look at your closest associates?

#3 Decide every day you will live with passion.

No one keeps up their enthusiasm automatically.

Papyrus said:  Enthusiasm must be nourished with new action, new aspiration, new efforts, and new vision. (Passion brings motivation and commitment.)

If you’re not passionate, it’s your own fault.  It’s because you’re not applying the things you know to do.

We won’t be accountable for the things we didn’t know and not do but for the things we knew and didn’t do.
