Once you have found a better way – Make that way better.

(Are you going to get any better, or is this it?)

What are you doing to ensure you are growing?

Pastor George Lehman

“The man, who starts out going nowhere, generally gets there.”

– Dale Carregie

The problem is you don’t stand still; you go backwards.

“What you are is God’s gift to you; what you do with yourself, is your gift to God.” –  Danish Proverb

Romans 12:5(Msg) – Since we find ourselves fashioned into all these excellently formed and marvellously functioning parts in Christ’s body, lets just go ahead and be what we were made to be.

The Truth is: – God deserves our best.

You and I have been shaped, designed and planned for a purpose

And; therefore, God expects you and I to make the best of what we’ve been given.

4 Short words sum up what has lifted most successful individuals making the way better, as long as you are moving forward – “A little bit more”

Example of athlete – or any sport for that matter.

Know what it is to experience “the Wall”. “I cannot go any further.”

The average, mediocre: – give up at this point –

But those who strive for “excellence” above “average” – have

Learned that there’s a place called a 2nd wind – pushing through to victory.

Excellence is the gradual result of always striving to do better.

2 Peter 1:5 (NIV) – For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge.

The bible says,
Ephesians 5:17 (LB) – “Don’t act thoughtlessly but try to find out and do whatever the Lord wants you to.”

Hebrews 4:12 (NIV) – For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints, and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

Galatians 6:4 (Amp) – But each one must carefully scrutinize his own work [examining his actions, attitudes, and behaviour], and then he can have the personal  satisfaction and inner joy of doing something commendable without comparing himself to another.

God does not want for His children to be: – Mediocre (middelmatig) Definition of Mediocrity: – It’s the best of the worst and the worst of the best.

Paul himself said: – About making the way better

Philippians 3:12–14 (NLT) – 12I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. 13No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. (I make that way better)

Paul is saying above all else,

I want to serve God better.
He says he can do even more.
He can go even further.
He says there is so much more in store for me.

We need to be so careful that we don’t fall into a trap of:-

I’ve arrived
I’m okay
I’m saved – that’s only the start – Finish Strong!
I have a church
I have done my bit – now I can rest. (Taking 3 months off)
I have served God for so long I need a rest. NO! He who endures to the end!

“Very often a change of self is needed more than a change of scene.” – Benson

Worldly entertainment won’t fix us – Jesus will!

Paul is saying

“I am not thinking about what I’ve done – No he says
I’m going to think about what I can do.
“MORE FOR JESUS is on his agenda”
Paul said he had limitations but that did not stop him.
“So to”, God has the best way for your life, on His heart.
God never puts anyone in a place too small to grow. (Isaiah 61:3)

He shaped us for great things.
Don’t resist or question God, make the way better.

Romans 9:20–21 – 20But who are you a mere man, to criticize and contradict and answer back to God.  Will what is formed say to Him that formed it, why have you made me thus? 21Has the potter no right over the clay.

Ephesians 4:7 (LB) – Christ has given each of us special abilities – whatever he wants us to have out of His rich storehouse of gifts.

We were shaped, designed and planned by God for a purpose

And given abilities and gifts to accomplish.

A major danger of not making the way better

That is burying our talents that God has given us.

Remember the story Jesus told about our potential, our abilities.

Matthew 25:25–26 (NIV) – 25’So I was afraid and went out and hid your gold in the ground. See, here is what belongs to you.’ 26His master replied, ‘You wicked, lazy servant! So you know that I harvest where I have not sown and gather where I have not scattered seed?”  (We use our talents to sow – God harvest)

The talent Jesus is speaking about here: –

Represents the power and potential to use the ability and gifts.
To make my life better and the lives of others.
To be effective, useful building the Kingdom of God.
Making a difference.

You can be sure when you are not pressing forward making a better way, I.e.: – burying your talents.

You will be, frustrated, miserable,

Be a problem to any ministry

Always having to go through nappy change

Hebrew 5:12–13 – You have been Christians a long time now, and you aught to be teaching others, but instead you have dropped back to a place where you need someone to teach you all over again the very first principles in God’s word, you are like babies who drink only milk.

It’s people like this who find fault, blame, make excuses (The one talent dude blamed his master.)

John Bunyan said, “If my life is fruitless, it doesn’t matter who praises me and if my life is fruitful, it doesn’t matter who criticizes me.”

God expects us to make the most of what He gives us.

Are you going to get any better or is this it?

We must develop our gifts and abilities.

Keep our hearts on fire

2 Timothy 1:6 – I want to remind you to stir into flame the strength and boldness that is in you (the gift of God).

Grow our character and personality: – becoming Increasingly more effective in our service.

Don’t settle for half-developed gifts.

Decide tonight: – to stretch yourself all you can.

“Get out of the boat / change your attitude”

You will never know what you’re good at and capable of – until you try.

Don’t forget, this is: – preparation time, getting ready for eternal responsibilities and rewards.

2 Timothy 2:15 – “Concentrate on doing your best for God; work you won’t be ashamed of.”
