Now concerning Spiritual Gifts

“The Holy Spirit is giving out gifts of God, that belongs to man.”

Acts 1:8 (NIV) – “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

This promise of power comes after the Holy Spirit visits your life to:

Empower you to witness effectively
Strengthen your walk in Christ
Equips you for service to advance the Kingdom in new power ways.

So as your life is empowered by the Holy Spirit Spiritual gifts or “new abilities” called the “gifts of the Holy Spirit” will also enable us to do the Lord’s work in a new dynamic way!

Tonight I can say with all certainty that it is the Father’s desire that we should all understand and operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. (Scriptural!)

1 Corinthians 12:1 (NIV) – “Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.”

“I do not want you to be ignorant, or uninformed” about Spiritual gifts.

DO NOT BE IGNORANT, because the enemy’s success is dependent on our ignorance and disobedience.

Realize tonight church that Spiritual gifts are yours for the taking, but you must desire it.

1 Corinthians 12:31 (NIV) – “Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.”

Eagerly / earnestly…. And zealously cultivate them!

To: 1. Edify (stig) the body of believers

Advance the Kingdom
Glorify God

My sincere prayer is that: we will all understand and experience the incredible greatness of God’s power tonight…. And that a Spirit of revelation and knowledge will flood our hearts and minds right now, in Jesus Name.

1 Corinthians 12:7-11 (NIV) – 7“Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11And these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.”

The Apostle Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit listed each one of the 9 gifts and it can be divided into 3 groups (easy to remember)

Revelation gifts: Word of wisdom, knowledge and the discerning of Spirits.
Vocal gifts: Tongues, interpretation of tongues and prophesy.
Power gifts: Gifts of the faith, healing and working of miracles.

So come and let us explore and look into Revelation Gifts

Word of Wisdom : We can only experience the “word of wisdom” when the Holy Spirit gives us supernatural ability and understanding through God’s word, in certain situations.

It is essential (van Kardinale belang) that we should all seek this gift; the “word of wisdom” as it is crucial in the operation of all the other gifts!

“Those who lack should ask.” so pray for it church, and ask God to saturate your life with it, and as you get into the word; the Lord will give you the word of wisdom to illuminate your understanding… Amen!

Word of Knowledge (receiving facts, supernaturally from the Holy Spirit)

The word of knowledge is something that couldn’t be known without the prompting of the Holy Spirit.

You see church there are many examples in the Bible where a word of knowledge was given by the Holy Spirit with specific information regarding or concerning a need or problem.

It was the Apostle Paul (as an example) who received a word of knowledge that allowed him to boldly ask Ananias and Sapphira “Why did you allow Satan to fill your hearts and lie?”

This lie was revealed to Paul through a word of wisdom by the Holy Spirit and not his own intellect or ability, church!

Please realize that the “word of wisdom” can be personal or given to you to share with others, but it will always be for the edification and upliftment of others (never to judge, criticize or condemn!)

Revelation gift #3 Discernment of Spirits

     (Gees van onderskeiding)

This gift is in reality the ability to perceive (om waar te neem) the source of a manifestation whether it be from God, man or the devil.  – Also called a Distinguishing Spirit.

Take note church, that every born again believer has a certain amount of discernment which will increase as you mature into the Lord – Hebrews 5:14 (NIV) – “But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”

You are able to discern between good and evil, what is good and even better!

The discerning of Spirits is also the God-given ability to distinguish between the truth of the Word and the deceptive doctrine of the enemy (valse leer-stellings)

Many believers are blessed with this gift and they are able to instantly recognize truth or what is contrary to the truth.

2 Timothy 2:15 (Ampl) – “Study and do your best to present yourself to God approved, a workman (tested by trail) who has no reason to be ashamed, accurately handling and skillfully teaching the word of truth.”

Says that they are diligent to “skillfully” divide the Word of God “rightfully”

Do you have a desire and hunger to apply that scripture in your life?

The next gifts we will be looking at:  Vocal Gifts

Tongues – Can I just say that speaking in tongues is scriptural and is a supernatural way of communication with God

1 Corinthians 14:2 (NIV) –2”For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.”

(It should not draw attention but to edify the believer who is speaking in tongues!)

1 Corinthian 14:5 (NIV) – 5”I would like every one of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be edified.”

(“I would have that you all speak in tongues.” so do not miss the value of this gift, church!)

So much more can be said about the gift of tongues, but please realizes today church that this gift, is critical in Spiritual warfare and intersession.

It is a powerful entry into deep intimate fellowship with the Most High God, but without tongues we overlook one of the most special gifts of the Holy Spirit!

Another Vocal gift is the:

Interpretation of tongues. (Uit-lé van tale)

1 Corinthians 12:10 (NIV) – “To another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.”
(This is the ability to translate divine utterances into a recognizable language)

This gift is primeraly for the upliftment / edification of other believers

1 Corinthians 14:13,19 (NIV) – 13”For this reason the one who speaks in a tongue should pray that they may interpret what they say.” 19”Butin the church I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others then ten thousand words in a tongue.”

Says that there will be no benefit to others in hearing something they do not understand, for the interpretation of tongues will always be God’s gift to the body of believers (His Church)

If this is the gift you desire from God, be encouraged to pray for it specifically, church!

Vocal gift #3:

Prophesy: (Revelation for edification. A divine revelation for upliftment.)

1 Corinthians 14:3 (Ampl) – “But (on the other hand) the one who prophesies speaks to people for edification (to promote their spiritual growth) and (speaks words of) encouragement (to uphold and advise them concerning the matters of God) and (speaks words of) consolation (to compassionately comfort them.)”

So prophesy is to encourage believers in their growth and is the unique ability to edify and uplift others

Prophesy will never condemn, but will always bring light and life, not doom, gloom and death!

Take note of the fact, church, that prophesy must always be consistent with the scriptures and it will never contradict the Word in any way!

Our 3rd set of gifts are called “Power gifts”

Faith (God-given ability to believe Him for the “impossible”)

The gift of faith, or “special faith” is the exceptional ability to trust God to work in unusual ways, or in a particular situation.

Romans 5:1 (NIV) – Says “we have all received a measure of faith” but the gift of faith, is the instantaneous assurance of God’s ability to act in a specific situation… it does not deny fact, but changes it!!

The gift of faith and the manifestation there-of can only be activated when we act through revelation of the Word and directed by the Holy Spirit. Amen!

Power gift #2

Healings (Restoration of health)

This gift is the supernatural enablement given to a believer to minister various kinds of healing and restoration to individuals through the power of the Holy Spirit AND is subject to the Sovereign will of God! (Immediately or gradually)

This gift goes hand-in-hand with the gift of Faith, for it is by faith that we pray over people and trusting God to heal and restore. It is the faith that we are not deterred (discouraged) or fearing the consequences but are motivated that God’s healing power will draw people to Jesus!

Power gift #3

The working of miracles (This is divine acts that cannot be explained by logic) and is a supernatural occurrence, against the laws of nature!!!

Red sea opening – against the law of nature

Walls of Jericho – against the law of nature

It was humanly impossible but divinely simple…

You see it is when we are empowered by God’s gracious gifts that we will see and experience and believe God for the supernatural…

Question is: Are you prepared to move from the natural to the supernatural to operate on a higher Spiritual level, church?

Conclude by saying: God has given us 9 gifts in total… to spread the Gospel advance the Kingdom, edify the Church and encourage believers.

These gifts are yours for the taking, church! Do not allow pre-conceived ideas, church doctrine or tradition to rob you of what God has in store for you; the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Amen!
