Ehrling – All I need
Nothing left, but God
“When all you have is God, you have all you need!”
A very “Good day” to all you precious people out there, it is my privilege to greet you in Jesus name, the name to which every knee shall bow & every tongue confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the Glory of God, the Father.
It is also my privilege to share God’s word with you again and I trust that this message will uplift & edify you, spiritually, emotionally & even physically, as I share on the topic of “Nothing left, but God”
I would like to state that: ‘When you have nothing left but God, you have everything!” (Repeat!)
But it doesn’t make sense, you would say! But if you ponder & meditate upon this truth, you will be able to say “Amen” to this statement, yes church?
Today I can honestly say, that there was a time in my life, when I had nothing left, but God….. BUT GOD!
So as I started my research & preparation for today’s message, I was reminded by the Holy Spirit about the times, yes more than once, that I had nothing left, but God! (Anybody?)
There was a time in my life when I faced loss, sorrow, pain, distress and yes, I became despondent (meaning low spirited) & almost disconnected from courage!!
It was in these moments that I could identify with King David when he wrote Psalm 13 (Read)
Psalm 13 (NIV) – How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? 2How long must I wrestle with my thoughts and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? 3Look on me and answer, Lord my God. Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death, 4and my enemy will say, “I have overcome him,” and my foes will rejoice when I fall. 5But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. 6I will sing the Lord’s praise, for he has been good to me.
He cried out to God! Amen Church?
You see guys & ladies, many times people would run away or turn away from God when they are faced with calamities, loss or extreme pain and I’ve seen this a lot, even with born-again believers!
But if you read Psalm 13 and you reach verse 5, you will come to realise that David came to his senses, he made a U-turn, he focused his mind on God and experienced a change of heart & attitude. He developed an attitude of gratitude! He started to rejoice in his situation and so should we! Philippians 4: 4 says: Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice!
Question: When last did you thank God for all your blessings?
John 16: 33b (Amp) – I have told you these things, so that in Me you have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world. “[My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.]
In this passage of Scripture, Jesus told his disciples that they will have to face tough challenging times, but that they should be of good courage! Be confident, certain & undaunted.
I know church that it is not easy when you’re in the eye of the storm (Ryan Stevenson song) when you’re facing tsunamis, hurricanes or tidal waves of note!
It’s not easy…… But possible!
I would like to share with you, another Bible character who had nothing left, but God!
Read Job 1:20-22 (NIV) – 20At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship 21and said: “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” 22In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.
We are all so familiar with Job and the story of what God allowed to happen in Job’s life!
Please realize church, that when friends forsake you, disappointments come, heart break happens, or you just suffer great financial or physical loss or your health worsens, can I just say that you are exactly where God want you to be….in a place where you depends solely on Him and the promises of His Word!
According to the word of God, Job had lost his livestock, his crops, ten of his children, all his servants, yes basically everything!
Even his wife disrespected him by saying that he should curse God & die! Even his “friends” scorned him. Job 16:20b – “But my eyes poured out tears to God!!”
In other words, he cried out to God, the creator of heaven & earth to come to his rescue! And so should we, church!
I’ve discovered that my most intimate moments with God are when I’m in my valleys, my “low” moments of life!
I know that there are many people today that can relate to Job’s situation! Many are mourning the death of a loved one, some can relate to Job’s loss of all his earthly wealth, and mental state of mind.
But today I’m reminded of God’s promise in:
Matthew 11:28 (NIV) – “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”
God will give you rest, even as King David said in:
Psalm 18:2 (NIV) – “The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold”.
Would you agree with me church, that it is during your times of need, of despair & even frustration, that we are moved to trust God whole-heartedly?
That we’re in a place where the only way out, is up ….. and the best physical position to be in, is on your knees? As you apply & remind God of His promise in Jeremiah 33:3 (NIV) – ‘Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’
You see, this is a time when you are forced to do some introspection, as to what should be priority in your life, and what should not! We discover that the things we thought we couldn’t live without, doesn’t matter as much as we thought they did!
Even the dearest & sweetest things of life take 2nd place to the pleasure of the knowing God! You discover a new longing and desire for God & His righteousness
Matthew 6:33 (NIV) – But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
A desire for His word, His Company, His voice and then the desire for the world’s pleasures and temporary solutions becomes less as you strive to please God & live a life that will bring Him glory, amen?
I’ve also come to realize that when I have nothing left, no strength, no desire to stand, when I’m supposed to stand, that God will say: You cannot, but I can!”
It’s time to step aside, child, for the battle is mine, for My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in your weakness!
Conclude: So, Be encouraged today family, friends, as you realize that when you have nothing, but God, you have everything!
