A look at the 7 Deadly Sin #5
It is not only what we do, but also what we do not do, for which we are accountable. – It’s what we are not doing to correct what’s wrong.
By Pastor George Lehman
The Christian hasn’t lost the power to sin BUT the DESIRE to sin.
You may have wondered why I called the series “A look at the 7 deadly sins”
Namely: Pride, Envy, Anger, Gluttony, Lust, Greed and Sloth
The reason is to make us aware of the dangers and consequences of sin.
It’s so that we can make the necessary changes to our lives, to live a “God pleasing / God fearing life”.
God is not into “sin management”. He is into DELIVERANCE from sin.
Jesus died and rose again, so we should live a victorious overcoming life.
Jesus didn’t die so we could continue in a habitual lifestyle of SIN.
Romans 6: 1-2 (Amp) – What shall we say [to all this]? Should we continue in sin and practice sin as a habit so that [God’s gift of] [a]grace may increase and overflow? 2 Certainly not! How can we, the very ones who died to sin, continue to live in it any longer?
It’s not praying a prayer and God must do the rest.
What are the signs of a “Effective Christian”? – Where are you on a scale of Empty – Full?
They are daily mastering the art of living the “Christ centered Life”. – What you put in, you will get out.
There is something very different about them – the difference is John 3:30
There is a genuine and authentic maturity about them and they are constantly seeking to walk on the right side with God. Not fence sitters, no sign of compromise
They act mature and are mature. – Their maturity shows by their conduct
They are evergreen, fruitful trees and never stop growing no matter what the cost. Psalm 1:3 (AMP) – And he will be like a tree firmly planted [and fed] by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season; Its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers [and comes to maturity].
The Compromise living Christian tends to drag people down to their degenerative or worsening ways; always find fault; are critical; complain and condemn.
They become discouragers, momentum breakers; find themselves continuously dabbling in these 7 deadly sins.
When you live the “Christ Life”, you have a lifeline connected to God’s throne. The communication level is open.
You Draw daily: Life, faith, wisdom, inspiration, strength and boldness! You are also able to cast a lifeline of encouragement to those who are weak!
Hebrews 4:16 (Ampl) – Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace (the throne of God’s unmerited favor to us sinners), that we may receive mercy (for our failures) and find grace to help in good time for every need (appropriate help and well timed help, coming just when we need it.)
The full meaning of the word ‘integrity’ means: togetherness, wholeness, integrated, completeness and the possession of firm principles.
Integrated – I’m accountable to others
Spiritually speaking, looking at integrity, it is an important quality that has to be found in a “Christ centred Life.”
These are the principles, the 7 steps to God’s support and recovery.
7 things that must always be Active and in order in a “Christ centred Christian.” – A Christian with Integrity
7 disciplines that must permanently be part of our life.
#1 The love of God and the love for my fellow man.
Matthew 22:37-40 (Ampl) – And He replied to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind (intellect). 38This is the great (most important, principal) and first commandment. 39And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as [you do] yourself. 40These two commandments sum up and upon them depend all the Law and the Prophets.
Loving God kills the desire to sin
#2 The fear of the Lord.
Proverbs 9:10 (Amp) – The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning (the chief and choice part) of Wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight and understanding.
#3 Holiness, morality and purity.
2 Timothy 2:19 (Amp) – Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God [which He has laid] stands [sure and unshaken despite attacks], bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord stand apart from wickedness and withdraw from wrongdoing.”
2 Timothy 2:21 (AMP) – Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things [which are dishonorable—disobedient, sinful], he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified [set apart for a special purpose and], useful to the Master, prepared for every good work.
Hebrews 12:14 (NIV) – Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.
#4 A godly value system to guide your life. – You are living out right now your valves.
Malachi 1:7 (Msg) – When you say, ‘The altar of God is not important anymore; worship of God is no longer a priority,’ that’s defiling.
Thinking that going to church or being involved in the ministries activities Like Home cells is not really important. That’s defiling!
#5 Constant intake and study of the word of God.
2 Timothy 2:15 (Amp) – Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth.
#6 A vibrant and active prayer life.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 (Amp) – Be unceasing in prayer [praying perseveringly];
Prayer does not fit us for greater work; prayer is the greater work.
#7 Consistent practice of spiritual disciplines.
Hebrews 5:14 – But solid food is for full-grown men, for those whose senses and mental faculties are trained by practice to discriminate and distinguish between what is morally good and noble and what is evil and contrary either to divine or human law.
In order to achieve Christ-likeness, YOU have to practice the same discipline that Jesus Christ Himself practiced.
Matthew 5:48 (Amp) – You, therefore, must be perfect [growing into complete maturity of godliness in mind and character, having reached the proper height of virtue* and integrity**], as your heavenly Father is perfect.
*virtue = goodness, uprightness, good quality [voortreflikheid]
**integrity = togetherness, wholeness, integrated, completeness and possessing firm principles [beginsels].
