What do you easily settle for; the best or second best?

What do you easily settle for; the best or second best?

“It’s sad to think how people nowadays are more shocked at “Excellence and Honesty than Poor Quality and Lies.”

Let me ask you:

The year is almost over; if you look back what have you been mostly settling for?

Do you settle for the best or second best in your life?

It’s like to story of the guy who was going fishing one time and he went up to the dock to an old man. And he wanted to know how deep the water was and he asked in a kind of a strange way.

He said, “Sir, if I was to fall off right here would I drown?”

And the old man said,

“No you wouldn’t drown if you fell in son.

You’d drown if you stayed under.”

The thing that hinders so many people from living their BEST life that God has planned for them. (the Thriving life) It is staying under the power of accepting second BEST for your life.

The world we live in conditions us sub-consciously to allow second best to be acceptable, when God’s standard only calls for the best from our lives.

Jeremiah 31:3 (NIV) – The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving kindness.”

God’s best is always waiting for us.

Thank God, He never gave ‘Second Best’.

No matter what you do, no matter what the task, we must start by ‘thinking’,

“How can I do it better than it has ever been done before”.

Colossians 3:23 (NIV) – Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

It’s a funny thing about life – “If you refuse to accept anything but the best, you very often get it”.  And you even begin to live it.

As a child of God you must:
Think only of the best;
Work only for the best;
Accept only the best.

Excellence is never an accident. It’s a wilful decision you make!

“ONLY My standard will do”, says the Lord.  There’s always an excellent way of doing everything. It’s the biblical way, there is no other standard. Otherwise you busy with something that appears real but is a counterfeit.

Make the decision: (as Henry Ward Beecher said)

“Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anybody else expects of you.”

Philemon :21(Amp) – I write to you [perfectly] confident of your obedient compliance, since I know that you will do even more than I ask.  (Here is a man who gives his best. What do they say about you?)

From years of serving God, this is what I know:

“Those who demand the very best from themselves and refuse to accept nothing short of the best these people hold the banner of success, victory and progress.”  (These are the one’s God uses)

They are the encouragers, the momentum makers they set an example for others to follow Jesus.

2 Timothy 2:15 (NIV) – Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

Colossians 3:17 (NIV) – And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

When you love God, you cannot be pleased with giving Him second best.

Excellence measures a man by the:
Height of his ideals; (your standard / principles)
Breadth of his compassion; (how you treat others)
Depth of his convictions; (a strong faith)
Length of his persistence. (never giving up)

When it comes to living a life that settles only for the best, the people will always determine your character by observing:

What you stand for;
What you fall for;
What you lie for.

If you don’t do something perfectly but you do it with excellence, you know you gave your best.

The more you do things with excellence, the more you will begin to perfect your whole life for God.

The world is daily making heavy demands on us to live mediocre, second best lives.  Don’t give in to it.

We must learn to follow the Holy Spirit’s leading.

Galatians 5:16(LB) – I advise you to obey the Holy Spirit’s instructions.  He will tell you where to go and what to do, and then you won’t always be doing the wrong things your evil nature wants you to do.

Make the choice-speak it out.  Say, “Lord help me so that my whole life will easily settle for the best.”

The fact is, when you are delivering your very best that is when you will feel successful and satisfied as a child of God.

Dare to be true to the best you know.

“Hold yourself responsible for a higher standard than anybody else expects of you.”
